The first pair was made by outdoor retailer Royal Robbins, intended to be used as a multi-purpose hiking and climbing pant. Years later, a couple of Colorado FBI agents, who also happened to be avid hikers, discovered that these flexible pants could be used for more than just mountain climbing. Eventually, they arrived at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
